Licencias de conducir - El lado humano de la ley

En 2009 miles de personas en Pensilvania recibieron cartas diciendo que sus licencias de conducir serian canceladas. Muchas personas perdieron sus licencias y al mismo tiempo perdieron su derecho a sobrevivir.

Sin embargo, un grupo de seis personas ganaron su caso y conservaron sus licencias. En una serie de juntas comunitarias, han compartido su experiencia para que las otras personas afectadas puedan juntarse y luchar por su derecho a manejar.

The Right to Drive: A Community Stands Together and Wins

Without the benefit of legal counsel, six South American immigrants waged a court battle against the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and won the right to keep their driving privileges after the agency arbitrarily suspended them. The group didn’t plan on rising up against the agency without legal representation, but they couldn’t get a lawyer to touch their individual (or collective) cases. They were told it was better to keep quiet and not fight authority. Easier to just accept that their driver’s licenses had been revoked...

"Obama Escucha!, Estamos en la Lucha" March for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

On Sunday, March 21, 2010 Around 1,000 people from Philadelphia and surrounding areas packed into buses and headed towards Washington D.C to join up with the 200,000 already present there for a march for  Comprehensive Immigration Reform. You may not have heard about this incredible gathering of people in the media because it was overshadowed by the few dozen protestors gathered there also against the Healthcare Reform bill that was being passed. Regardless of that, the power of the people was definitely seen and heard in Washington and throughout the country.
