Since the 1970s, the U.S. has been on a path towards increasing income inequality. New census data shows the trend has been magnified by the recent economic depression and that while a small percentage of households are doing exceedingly well, the majority of Americans are struggling to survive.

Not Just a Philly Thing: Adressing Inequities in School Funding Across Pennsylvania

In late 2007, a Costing Out Study was released. It was commissioned by the state to find out how much money is needed to give all students in Pennsylvania an adequate education, broken down by school district. It took into account factors such as poverty, English language learners, and cost of living. The results were not surprising, but nonetheless were very important.

The Top Paid: Making Tens of Millions a Year

Philadelphia is home to some of the top paid CEOs in the country. Heading the list of the 25 Top Paid CEOs recently put together by the Philadelphia Inquirer is Comcast CEO Brian Roberts. Roberts earned $24,683,315 up 2 percent from last year.

 

In a city that faces continued budget issues, and growing poverty the increase in earnings that these CEOs have seen mark a growing inequality that is being experienced across the country.
