Last month, over 1,000 participants marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of SNCC, one of the leading organizations of the civil rights movement, at its birthplace at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The reunion conference was a stirring and inspiring experience both as a historical marker and as a continuing connection to the current struggles for social justice.
AAU Board and staff members, Ed Nakawatase, Joanie Cordova, Judy Ha, and Ellen Somekawa, were there along with local family and friends. They will share their impressions and analysis, accompanied by photos.
Program will feature:
- Ed Nakawatase (who worked in SNCC's Atlanta Office (1963-63): SNCC's Organizing Model and Its Relevance to Today's Struggles
- Dr. Joan May Cordova: Photos and Reflections on the Conference
- All: Dialogue
All are welcome, the parking lot will be open, and light refreshments will be served.
