Campaigns and Actions

In January of 2010, the Poverty Initiatve, a group based in New York that aims to reignite Dr. Martin Luther King's Poor People's Campaign, visited Philadelphia for an immersion tour. The tour highlighted the history of the struggles of poor people in this city. Willie Baptist and Liz Theoharis, of the Poverty Initiative,  shared stories about the struggle of the homeless in 1995 and 1996.

In the fight against displacement and gentrification the Harlem Anti-Displacement Task Force held it's 3rd Annual March.

Katrina Pain Index 2009 is a solidarity message from Bill Quigley to Hurricane Katrina survivors in NYC at the Katrina Remembrance Aug. 29, 2009. Workers at Baltimore's Inner Harbor announced today that they are demanding that developers require businesses in the development to respect worker rights to a living wage and treatment with dignity.  This is a major development in the United Workers Human Rights Zone campaign, and is also a big step in organizing workers in the new economy.

This afternoon, nurses, doctors, students, and concerned community members picketed outside the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of Temple’s new Medical Education and Research Building at 3500 N. Broad St. Temple VIPs who attended the ceremony had a clear view of the spirited rally from inside the shiny new building.

Several Organizations came out on October 22nd 2009 in support of The October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation. Calling on an end to the constant criminalization, and murder of community members by the NYPD.

Casino Free Philadelphia takes action this Tuesday at Sugar House as it launches the "In The Red" campaign to get casino investors to drop plans for Philadelphia slots.

Philadelphia Student Union was part of a recent action held by the Effective Teaching for All Children campaign, in front of the School District Building and the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) office.

29 de Abril 2009, Radio Tlacuache estuvó afuera de Philly en los suburbios con el sindicato SEIU 32BJ.  Ahora los trabajadores de limpieza de Philly esta recibiendo un slario justo por la lucha del sindicato.  Un trabajdor de este sindicato recibe $15 por hora mas beneficios.  Pero las mismas companias que paga bien sus empleos en la ciudad esta tratando de esconderse en las afrueras de  Philly y sigue pagando salarios miserables a los trabajadores que se queda limpia sus oficinas.
