WATCH: The Plight of the American Vets: Part 2
As Casualties of the Afghanistan war continue to rise, social services for vets here in America are on the decline. Though their stories often go untold, our vets are becoming casualties here at home...medically, socially and economically.
There are, however, a few services currently in the Philadelphia area that are trying to aide vets in their re-entry into society. One such service is Impact, which is a supporter of improving veterans' lives through advocacy, education, empowerment and continual aftercare. The programs are designed to assist our disenfranchised and dislocated vets by providing the necessary tools to overcome obstacles that they may face in their attempts to reintegrate into larger society.
Despite how programs like these support our vets, services like this are being de-funded. This contributes to greater rates of homelessness and increases in unemployment. This is why past vets must continue to fight for their future, honor, and respect in America's consciousness.
