We Stand With Temple Nurses!
Community members from across Philadelphia are coming out in support of the striking nurses and allied professionals at Temple Hospital. Support for the nurses continues to grow as Temple University Hospital System (TUHS) continuously violates the public trust and puts their profit before everyday Philadelphians and the future of our city.
In the last six months alone TUHS has:
• shut down an important community hospital in Northeast Philadelphia,
• abrogated workers' first amendment rights by attempting to impose a gag order on nurses speaking up about patient care,
• been found guilty of bargaining in bad faith with the union,
• spent more money to bring in temporary workers from around the country than it would have cost them to settle a fair contract with the workers who are now on strike.
In the face of Temple's actions, Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP) nurses and techs are defending quality care for their patients, as well as their own rights as workers. Community leaders are organizing to support them and to hold Temple accountable. Ronald Blount, President of the Unified Taxi Workers Alliance explained that cab drivers are supporting the nurses "because like cabbies, nurses are fighting for their human right to work with dignity and the right to have their voices heard."
Gregory Jordan-Detamore, a student leader from Philadelphia Student Union argued that "the nurses' struggle is one we should all support because they are the people that take care of us when we are sick and because they are our family members, neighbors and friends."
Students, taxi drivers, hospital patients, media-makers, immigrants, people with disabilities, people of faith, janitors, hotel workers, parents, artists, organizers, and educators are standing with PASNAP because the nurses' struggle is indivisible from all the struggles faced by everyday Philadelphians.
On Thursday at 5pm, members of Philadelphia Student Union, Unified Taxi Workers Alliance, Media Mobilizing Project & others will visit the striking PASNAP nurses and techs at the picket lines outside of Temple Hospital, at Broad & Ontario streets, to express their support. All are welcome to join.
